Sick of spending yet another afternoon doing the same ol’ same ol’? Give yourself a change of pace with these 5 activities:
1. Have a movie marathon
Come up with a great theme — like best action movies, biggest tearjerkers, or laugh-out-loud comedies. You’ll be busy for hours laughing, crying, and looking for villains. Just don’t forget the popcorn and the other assorted snacks!
2. Set up a lemonade stand
Think this is something that only kids can do? Think again! Sitting outside selling lemonade to your neighbors and other passers-by is a great way to meet new people and enjoy a bright sunny day all at the same time. In order to get the most out of it, take all of the profits and donate them to your favorite charity.
3. Write a letter to yourself
Flash forward to your wedding, your 50th birthday, or even to your 100th birthday. What would you say to yourself? What kind of advice would you have for yourself? What would you want yourself to remember all those years from now?
Or, flip it around and write a letter to your younger self — like when you were 13 or 25. What kind of advice would you give yourself now that you’re older and wiser? Would you tell yourself not to make such a big deal out of the middle school crush? Would you give yourself a pat on the back for getting that Master’s Degree?
No matter what you write, it can be an interesting way to spend the afternoon!
4. Go camping
You don’t need to head to the woods; your own backyard will do. Pitch a tent, grab a few folding chairs, and head outside. You can curl up with your favorite book, a couple of mindless magazines, or simply sit and enjoy the peace and quiet around you.
Even if you don’t spend the whole night out there, by getting away from the TV, your mobile phone, and your responsibilities, you can get some much-needed rest and relaxation!
5. Tour the world through food
Do a little bit of research, and see what menu items are “off the beaten path”. For example, you can get an exotic Thai dish, something you’ve never ordered from your local Chinese restaurant, or even a traditional Italian dish that ISN’T pizza. Or, get some friends to come over, order all three, and you’ll get to “travel” without needing a passport! Order food online, and see what options you have – these days there are lots of interesting (and delicious) choices! If you really want to get festive, head online and look for some cool music that comes from countries you’re feasting from!
